ALONE

|
All alone, yet special people all around.
Individuals who try their best,
To lend a helping hand,
To give support,
To listen, to care,
To stand by us,
Yet no one truly understands.
All alone in our multiple existence,
A defense that for survival had to be.
In what's happening within us,
In why it's happening,
In the inhumanity of it all,
In the screams and nightmares that never cease.
Solitarily confined is where lack of trust dictates we must be.
All alone, and even worse,
We don't always understand
Why we were forced into a war we never wanted or asked for,
At an age where we were too young to comprehend;
Nor the reason we became their enemy
Or why they just could not let the torment end.
The inhumanity of the secrets that for safety couldn't be bent.
All alone, we'll try to let go of the ugliness and move on,
From a war that was bullied upon us, and that no one won.
We'll struggle with the cries and voices from within,
Put there by a past that necessitated their not being discussed.
The goal is to function as a team, as one,
To find some strength and trust,
So safely our recovery can continue on,
For to be happy, we must.
